David gained degree from University College Cardiff and has worked with both start-up companies and major multi-national food companies as Technical Director encompassing a range of different food products. In his current role as Director of the Food Industry Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University, David works closely with both the private sector and Welsh Government often advising on issues affecting the sector and influencing Welsh Government’s Food Policy. The Food Industry Centre links food science academics to industry in subjects ranging from food safety, 3rd party accreditation, bacterial contamination, legislation, new product development, sustainability and efficiency through food factory design and process controls. During his tenure as Director of the Food Industry Centre the unit has delivered over 200 knowledge transfer programmes, resulting in an increased turnover in excess of £200,000,000 for Welsh companies, creating over 400 jobs and launching over 250 new products to the major UK retailers. David is integrally involved in the Welsh Government Food Strategy and is Vice Chair of the Food and Drink Wales Industry Board. David was a founding member of the United Kingdom Association of Food Protection (and former board member of the International Association of Food Protection.
