Sowmiya is a champion for plant-based and meatless foods, sustainability and local produce in Singapore. She rose to prominence as one of the contestants in the first season of MasterChef Singapore. As a self taught chef, her passion for cooking has helped her grow from strength to strength to become one of the most well-regarded names in the plant-based food space in Singapore. In the course of her chef journey, she has worked with major food manufacturers like Nestle, Unilever, Dole and Roquette, as well as plant-based food brands such as Tindle and Karana to launch their products in Singapore. She has also featured her modern and innovative dishes as part of her pop-ups with restaurants such as RedDot Brewhouse, Plentyfull, Flying Monkey and Fennel by Komala Vilas. Her quest to make a difference in the way people think, eat and make food led her to be a co-founder of Vitality Foods and play an integral part in developing healthy, plant-based foods that appeal to the silver generation with an Asian palate.
